News 7 Tamil Television, part of Alliance Broadcasting Private Limited, is rapidly growing towards being the most watched and most respected news channel both in India as well as among the Tamil global diaspora. The channel’s strength has been its in-depth coverage of news coupled with the quality of international television production.
Among the many first to its credit, News 7 Tamil is the only infotainment channel in India with an editorial board to maintain its objectivity in news coverage. The Board set up with experts and prominent people from different walks of life has designed an editorial policy for the channel and mandated guidelines that ensures neutrality.
Retired Judge of the Madras High Court, Justice Venkataraman is the chairman of the Editorial Board. Nick Walshe, who has worked at various senior editorial and managerial capacities at Al Jazeera, BBC and ITN, London based author and poet Meena Kandaswamy, Columnist and Lawyer Preeti Mohan and former Anna University Vice-Chancellor and UPSC member Dr. Balagurusamy are members of the Board.
Mr R Bhagwan Singh, who has four decades of journalistic experience in news agencies, dailies and news magazines, is heading the channel as its Managing Editor.
News 7 Tamil focuses on providing news and expert views in a wide array of subjects including domestic politics, international affairs, human interest issues, business and economy, sports, entertainment, culture, and lifestyle. The channel has substantial reach among audiences across the country for its objectivity, rich tone, look and feel with an underlying social concern and above all in staying away from any kind of sensationalism.
Our innovative programming has led to creating slots like ‘Maiyaam’ and ‘special debates’ focusing on a number of social issues like road safety, female infanticide, alcoholism, women empowerment, human rights violations and so on. Daily debates in segments like ‘Zero Hour’ and Kelvi Neram’ take up current issues for dealing threadbare so that the viewers get a full understanding of all the aspects surrounding the issue. The unbiased debates have come to be hailed as augmenting an unadulterated opinion on issues concerning the people.
Besides this, daily segments like Andrada Aanmeegam, Theervugal. Unavey Amirtham, Varaverpparai and Poovaali deal with spiritualism, motivation, food as medicine, gardening and meeting people who have made a difference in the lives of others.
In another first to its credit, News7 Tamil is the only channel set up in India with a social media studio in place. In a bid to attract the youth’s attention and serve as a platform to voice their opinions, the social media segment forms part of every bulletin. This has turned out to be a strong focus for the channel’s ‘younger than average’ newsroom. However, these intense conversations are accounted for without diluting the channel’s editorial focus on ‘socially responsible journalism’ with an emphasis on social empowerment through right information.
Further, in a bid to synergise the communication platforms of the television, internet and mobile phone, we have also created a website ns7.tv to reach out to the Global Diaspora spread across various countries and time zones by offering news and infotainment content with a distinct Tamil perspective.
